KITT is the result of a Saab Systems Grintek (SSG) South Africa (SA) Research and Development (R&D) programme to cater for the requirements of a modern tactical C3I environment for the South African National Defence Force (SANDF). KITT is part of the long-term SSG strategy for the development of a common application development platform for current and future projects.
The KITT programme focuses on the following aspects:
|
Communication: |
Facilitating data communications over limited bandwidth combat tactical radio networks. These networks include High Frequency (HF), Very High Frequency (VHF) and Ultra High Frequency (UHF) communications links. |
|
Integration: |
Allowing for the integration of 3rd party systems such as Combat Management Systems (CMS), Electronic Warfare Systems (EWS) or Sensor Systems such as radar or sonar. Providing a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) for application data sharing. |
|
Interoperability: |
Facilitating syntactic information dissemination through the use of common exchange formats and protocols such as the Combat Network Interoperability Standard (CNIS), a SA defence communications link standard. A generic messaging framework and open data model forms a part of the KORE. |
|
Applications |
Extending or creating C3I module(s) for future requirements or needs. Allowing for 3rd Party development on the KITT platform for Command & Control, Situational Awareness and Communication, Integration & Interoperability. |
